- Helpful information:
- Currency: Tanzanian shilling, 10 000 TZS is a bit over $4 and around €4
- You may also pay with USD, however we recommend paying with them only for accommodation and trips
- From our experience, it's important to exchange USD to TZS right at the airport as they have the best exchange rate and then paying with TZS around the locals.
- Documents and visas: 50 USD per person upon arriving at the airport. You may also get an e-visa online with a minimum of 3 weeks before your arrival or while arriving at the airport. You will get the documents on the airplane.
- Your passport's expiration date has to be in more than 6 months from the day you enter the country.
- The time zone here is GMT+3
- The electrical net here is 230 V / 50 Hz. They use the type D outlets, so you will most likely need an adapter. Make sure to get one or two for your desired connectors before arrival.
- The criminality in Zanzibar is out of the ordinary and the safety is quite high.
- Even though Zanzibar is a safe country, there is a risk of pickpockets and street muggings.
- Photoshoots of the army, policemen and their buildings as well as any of their belongings is strictly prohibited. If you'd like to take a picture of a local, make sure to ask them for permission first.
